Liberia Prepares to Welcome President Sandra Mason of Barbados: Focus on Strengthening Investment Cooperation
Monrovia, Liberia – The National Investment Commission (NIC) of Liberia is pleased to announce its active participation in the upcoming official visit of Her Excellency Sandra Mason, President of Barbados, who will be visiting Liberia from May 8–10, 2025, in commemoration of the 160th Anniversary of Barbadian Immigrants’ Landing in Liberia.
The historic visit underscores the enduring bonds between Liberia and Barbados and aims to deepen bilateral cooperation across economic, cultural, and social dimensions.
As part of the official program, the NIC will play a key role in showcasing Liberia’s investment climate and emerging sector opportunities to the Barbadian delegation. A Presidential Luncheon, hosted at the Executive Mansion on May 9, 2025, will feature a brief investment climate overview by Hon. Jeff Blibo, Chairman of the NIC, highlighting strategic sectors primed for investment collaboration.
During this engagement, the two Presidents are expected to sign a Cooperation Agreement focused on facilitating investments and fostering stronger private sector linkages between Liberia and Barbados.
Particular areas of interest highlighted by President Mason include:
Fisheries and Aquaculture – especially the sardine value chain for export and processing;
Sugar Cane Farming and Rum Production – supporting agri-processing and trade;
Youth and Environmental Investments – with an emphasis on sanitation and green economy initiatives.
To support these priorities, the NIC is working in close collaboration with the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to prepare tailored sector value propositions that will be presented during the luncheon and follow-up engagements.
"This visit represents a significant milestone not just in celebrating our shared history but in creating a new economic future between Liberia and Barbados," said Chairman Hon. Jeff Blibo. "The National Investment Commission remains fully committed to facilitating mutually beneficial investment opportunities that drive sustainable growth and regional cooperation."
Following the luncheon, sector-specific investment materials will be made available to interested investors and stakeholders.
